Since being in operation since 1987, A.A.P. Signs has retired the sign portion of the business and Al is concentrating on Fine Art Oil painting and Sign Pictorials.

Local artist Al Papenberg was born in Kearny, New Jersey, in 1951 and grew up in the surrounding Tri-State Area alongside his two younger brothers, Michael and Eric. Upon his graduation from Severna Park High School in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, Al served in Vietnam as an infantry soldier achieving the rank of specialist E-4.

His return fom military service saw him attend and graduate from the Maryland Institute College of Art with a BA in Graphic Design/Fine Arts. Al went on to finance and run his own small business in Red Lion, Pennsylvania, where he continued to hone his skills as a master craftsman in sign manufacturing and installation.

He remained dedicated to his art and paintings, however, all while raising three adult children with his wife of over 30 years, Mary.

Together, Mary and Al want to bring the best value they can to the greater Shallotte art scene and welcome your inquiries on various pieces in their gallery.
